Methadone Therapy Program at Heritage Home

Although total abstinence is our goal with each of our clients, we recognize that for some a medical intervention to control cravings, in conjunction with their primary therapeutic program, can be the right treatment option.

Methadone Therapy is commonly used for opioid drug addiction—heroin, oxycodone, morphine, and codeine among others. Methadone has been used safely as a drug addiction therapy for 35 years, helping countless people. It may seem counterintuitive to supplement a drug addiction treatment program with a drug, even if medically prescribed. However, under strict medical supervision, as provided at Heritage Home Drug Rehab Center, methadone therapy has proven to be effective at controlling cravings while you grow strong with a psychotherapeutic program.

Methadone, although once used as a painkiller, is an effective medical treatment for opioid addiction when taken everyday in a controlled maintenance dose. Today, it is most commonly used to support heroin addiction treatment program. Its long-lasting effects help take away the physical cravings for the drug, without the foggy, high, or drugged feeling.

Our physician is fully licensed to prescribe methadone, as well as other medications to control cravings. Both our physician and psychotherapists are experienced in adapting our drug addiction program to incorporate methadone therapy to achieve the maximum benefit from your rehabilitation experience.

Methadone Therapy is Not the Cure

It is important to remember, when considering if methadone therapy is right for you, that it is not a cure for addiction, but part of an overall drug addiction treatment program. At Heritage Home Drug Rehab Center, this includes individual and group psychotherapy, as well as a host of alternative treatments, recreational activities, nutrition therapy, and physical activities that best suit your needs.

Methadone Therapy Safely Treats Opioid Addictions

Methadone therapy is a safe treatment option for those with heroin or other opioid addictions. Using any other drug, including alcohol, while in a methadone therapy program will defeat your efforts. However, if used appropriately, under strict medical supervision, methadone is as safe as any other prescription medication. When used appropriately, methadone will not harm any of your internal organs.

Some mild side effects have been associated with the drug, including sweating and constipation. Side effects are generally no more than uncomfortable and can be controlled with dosage adjustments, if not grow less bothersome or disappear altogether with a little time.
