Why You May Want to Try Dry January (Again)

Why You May Want to Try Dry January (Again)
If you've tried Dry January in the past but didn't quite make it through the month, don't be discouraged. There are plenty of reasons to try it again, and you might find that this time around is different.

For one, Dry January can be a great way to kickstart a healthy lifestyle. By abstaining from alcohol, you're not only improving your physical health but also setting a positive tone for the rest of the year. You may find that you're more motivated to exercise, eat well, and take care of yourself overall.Another reason to try Dry January again is that it can help you break the cycle of habitual drinking.

Start something new in 2024!

If you're someone who tends to drink out of habit or boredom, Dry January can help you break that habit and find alternative ways to relax and socialize. You may discover that you don't need alcohol to enjoy yourself , and that you're able to find joy in sober activities.

Finally, Dry January can be a great opportunity to learn about mindful drinking habits. By paying attention to your body's responses to alcohol and learning to appreciate non-alcoholic drinks, you can develop healthier drinking habits that will benefit you in the long run. For many people Dry January is a challenge that offers numerous benefits, both physical and mental. Whether you're looking to improve your health, reduce your alcohol consumption, or simply try something new, Dry January is a great place to start. So, why not give it another try and see the positive changes it can bring to your life?

If you are already drinking every day and suspect you are living with Alcohol Use Disorder(AUD). Should you try Dry Jan?

Common sense tells us that any break from drinking is going to be a good thing, however for those living with AUD it is best to speak with your health care practioner and make sure that you can safely quit cold turkey. Many people living with AUD can not safely just quit. there are health risks that need to be taken very seriously.

And perhaps most importantly , for people living with AUD alcohol withdrawal can make them seriously ill and in some cases can even be fatal. Long-term alcohol use actually changes our brain’s chemistry*, making it dependent on the substance to function. That can mean that quitting ‘cold-turkey” may trigger:

  • Tremors
  • Hallucinations
  • Seizures
  • Drastic shifts in breathing, blood pressure, circulation, and even body temperature **

This is why it’s so important to have an honest conversation with your healthcare provider before you try Dry January. They can help you evaluate if it’s safe to quit cold turkey or if it would be better for you to try residential rehab and go through a professionally guided recovery program instead.

That's where we can help. At Sobriety.ca Foundation we have a staff devoted to caring for our residents through all stages of recovery. From medically supervised Detox, to learning the reasons for AUD the underlying issues that can cause relapse and by providing a clear and effective plan for what happens after rehab the team at Sobriety.ca Foundation have your back. If you suspect that you are living with AUD or have a friend or loved one who is suffering and you want to learn more about our recovery programs for a full and healthy life call us today at 1-888-999-8101, all calls are free, confidential and non judgemental.
